I have never read the Harriet Beecher Stowe classic "Uncle Tom's Cabin". As it turns out, most black people who use his name in vain have never read it either. But it is clear that the term Uncle Tom is meant to be an insult. It is supposed to refer to a "sellout", "race traitor" or a "house nigger". Black republicans and conservatives are usually on the receiving end of
these attacks.

Since I didn't have a copy of the book handy, I did a google search of Uncle Tom and I found this info posted on the Urban Dictionary website. Here is what it says:

"the real uncle tom was a black man born into slavery who gave his life to protect other slaves. when his story was turned into a movie, the writers re-worked the script making uncle tom's character the opposite; a slave who was loyal to his master. unfortunately, this has become the most commonly known image of uncle tom. because of the film, the term "uncle tom" has become synonymous with "sellout", degrading the real uncle tom. so once again, the white man has successfully managed to teach blacks an incorrect, caucasian-favoring version of history."

Ok so the term has been twisted to mean something that it shouldn't. No surprise there. I don't expect that to change anytime soon.  But the basic accusation behind the Uncle Tom label is that a black individual is somehow betraying the best interest of his or her people for his or her own personal benefit.

In my opinion, there are many brothers and sisters who are in positions of power who rightfully deserve the label of sellout. The problem is, these people are rarely identified. The main reason for that is because these are the very same people we tend to trust a little too blindly.

If poverty is the new slavery then Uncle Sam is the new master. Call him Master Sam. When you look at it from that perspective then it becomes clear who the real sellouts are. They are those so called black "leaders" who are constantly begging Master Sam for more handouts and entitlements. They advocate for more government control over the private sector and more intrusion into everyone's lives.

Most people think that big business and greedy capitalism are the main causes for this recession. That's only half of the problem. The multi-national corporations would not have the power to screw us over if they didn't have permission from the government politicians and bureaucrats.  Most Americans hand over between 40 to 60 percent of their income to the government through taxation.

Look at the healthcare bill. For the first time in US history, we will be required to buy government run health care. If you don't buy it, then you will be fined. If you don't pay the fine, you will go to jail. That's right. You will face jail time for not paying for something you don't want!

This doesn't seem like the kind of "change" most people had in mind a year or so ago. You would think that this would cause an outrage with civil rights leaders.
But Jesse Jackson recently said that if you don't support this healthcare bill, then you cannot call yourself a black man!
WTF?

This is what passes for rational debate these days?

It is time for black people to take a serious look at the people who claim to represent us. The Democrat party have had us wrapped around their pinky finger for over 30 years and what do we have to show for it? The war on poverty? You like the way that's turning out? Do you think welfare and the projects are helping us achieve wealth and prosperity?
I'll let you come up with your own answers.

One thing is clear though. We do have a record number of "sellouts" in and out of government. But don't call them Uncle Toms. They don't deserve that title. I think the term "house nigger" is more appropriate for these types. They are the one's who hide their own betrayals by blaming the real black heroes. The real Uncle Toms are those black individuals who stand up to oppressive masters instead of kissing their ass.
